[греч. bacterion — палочка]разложение биологических веществ под влиянием бактерий (гниение). Б.р. подвергаются белки, жиры, низкомолекулярные карбоновые кислоты, аминокислоты, простейшие сахара, спирты, ацетат и др. Примером Б.р. может служить нитрификация (см. нитрификация) — разложение в почве конечных продуктов азотистого обмена веществ в организмах и белков мертвых животных с образованием аммиака, аммонийных соединений, нитритов и нитратов.Толковый биотехнологический словарь.
